The funding is intended to support celebrations in England that recognise the arrival of MV Empire Windrush at Port Tilbury on 21 July 1948 with 492 Caribbean migrants and the contribution of the migrants who later became known as the Windrush Generation.
The Government is providing this funding with the intention of recognising and promoting understanding of their contribution and to make clear to those of Caribbean descent that Government values their enormous contribution to national life and wishes to recognise that contribution.
MHCLG are looking for innovative approaches, founded on active community engagement. They will fund projects and events that support the high-level objectives of the Windrush Day Grant, which are:
- Celebrate
- Commemorate
- Educate
- Community led and sustainable
- Local, National and Intergenerational.
Application Deadline: 21 January 2019
