Voice and the Oracy Curriculum

It’s something we’ve been saying in Community Media for years - speaking and listening matter, and we have a fairer society when everyone has the chance to develop these skills.

Voice 21 say:

We believe that oracy, the ability to communicate effectively using spoken language, should have the same status as numeracy and literacy in the curriculum.

This could lead to greater collaboration between schools and community media organisations.

We have been aware of the Voice21 work for a while but the first high school in our area decided to work with them recently and go the whole hog on oracy. Good for us in terms of working with them and we are starting with a full staff training day in September.

Any other stations have similar experience?
