The theme of this year’s Conference is “We Need To Talk” to recognise that the community media sector needs to talk to Government, to funders, and to the wider media industry.
We need to talk to each other about the upcoming changes around small-scale digital audio broadcasting, we need to talk about citizen journalism, and we need to talk about essential skills to develop talent and keep the sector sustainable. As a society, we need to talk more - and community media is the ideal platform for facilitating those conversations and advancing social change.
The 2019 Community Media Conference will be organised into 5 strands addressing a number of key themes:
Production: radio production masterclass with Hindenburg News, radio presenting skills masterclass with Scruton Wyatt Media
Small-scale digital audio broadcasting: tech, licensing, funding
Advocacy: BBC Local News Partnership, social value, citizens’ journalism
Sustainability: Community Radio Fund, Audio Content Fund
Discussion: recordings of the inRadio and Decentered Media podcasts
The 2019 Community Media Conference will bring together broadcasters, producers, community developers, publishers, media enthusiasts, creatives and academics for a day of learning, exchange, and celebration with inspiring speakers, workshops and networking opportunities.
