Media Literacy for young people

Great article in the Guardian about children’s privacy online -

Particularly like this quote from Prof. Sonia Livingstone at the LSE:

“The conditions of their privacy are changing, partly because of their own actions, partly others’. What will matter to children is to feel they have agency, respect and dignity – that’s at the heart of privacy. So anyone sharing or using their images should prioritise this.”

This led me to her recent blog post:

about the problems of fitting in media literacy throughout a child’s education.
Schools don’t have the skills, time or capacity to build media literacy into the curriculum. This is where community media organisations can really fill a gap. At Soundart Radio we are developing this project:
http://www.soundartradio.org.uk/every-child-has-a-voice/
that looks at embedding media an communication skills and understanding throughout every stage of growing up.
