Anyone interested in the arts as a form of civic engagement might be interested in this event:
Exploring the civic role of the arts in communities
This professional development event will explore the civic role that the arts and artists can and do play in society. With contributions from Jane Hackett, Project Director, Civic Role Inquiry, Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation (UK) and artist Heather Morrison.
Participants will have the opportunity to discuss and explore what the arts has to offer: ‘as places of learning, spaces where people can come together, platforms for unheard voices, and the means through which we can think about difficult issues’ (Civic Role Inquiry) and what action is required to make meaningful change.
What will you get from attending?
• The opportunity to hear about the work of artist Heather Morison and the Gulbenkian Civic Role Inquiry
• Ideas and inspiration from case studies, including Studio Morison’s work on the Bliss Park skatepark created in collaboration with Heart of Glass, St Helens Council, Merseyside Police, CANVAS, skate park specialists and the skating community in St Helen’s.
• The opportunity to step out of day to day work to look at your practice differently
• Time to discuss ideas and share experiences with others
Who should come?
The events are for practitioners from arts and non-arts sectors who work with, or want to work with, arts and people.
30% of tickets will be reserved for non-arts practitioners. We strongly encourage arts practitioners to bring a non-arts buddy/ collaborator with them to help share the learning and future working.
