BBC searches for new podcasting talent with The Rachael Bland New Podcast Award

The BBC is launching a UK-wide search to find the next new, passionate and distinctive voices in podcasting.

Entries for The Rachael Bland New Podcast Award open on Monday 21 January and BBC Radio 5 Live will produce a pilot series of the winning podcast to showcase on BBC Sounds.

The inaugural award is being launched in honour of Rachael Bland, the BBC Radio 5 Live newsreader and presenter who died in September 2018 from breast cancer. Rachael was the creator of You, Me and The Big C, the award-winning podcast she presented with Lauren Mahon and Deborah James and has won praise for tackling the subject of cancer in an original and unsentimental way. Monday 21 January would have been Rachael’s 41st birthday.

Entries are open to anyone who is a UK resident and does not already make a living through broadcasting. They must be knowledgeable and passionate about a subject, with a fun and distinctive tone that will bring people together.
